TCF Bank Profile
TCF is a national bank holding company based in Wayzata, MN. As of December 31, 2014, TCF held $19.4 billion in total assets and 379 branches in Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, Wisconsin, Arizona, South Dakota and Indiana, providing retail and commercial banking services. Through its subsidiaries, TCF also conducts commercial leasing, equipment finance and auto finance business in all 50 states and commercial inventory finance business in the U.S. and Canada.
But a few month ago TCF online banking has a many bada review from it user like below:
This bank engages in dishonest and unethical business practices by preying on lower end and usually younger depositors who have little or no banking experience. Thus, they are able to take money from depositors by holding and manipulating debits and credits to maximize their outrageous fees. Beware and don't be afraid to report. This bank needs to go.
After two years of banking with TCF Bank I finally closed my account. I began to wonder if TCF stood for Take, Cheat, Fraud as that's what I felt the entire stay with the bank. They advertise "free checking", but absolutely NOTHING is free. They charge for checks to use your debit card and have the ability to bend the truth in charging $37 NSF fees on a monthly basis. They didn't even come through with the promotional $25 for opening an account! The customer service is non-existent, fees abundant. I caution in using this bank.
I am currently out of town and will be forced to sleep on the street for 2 nights, courtesy of TCF Bank, until the 7 day hold they put on my deposit for housing money clears. Their rationalization for putting it on a 7 day hold was that I overdrew my account before - so not only do they gouge you with a 37 dollar fee for an overdraft, but they also have the condescending attitude to withhold your funds that have already cleared the check writer's bank. The person who helped me on the phone was kind and courteous, while hiding behind bank policy to politely explain the situation. TCF Bank does not value its customers or any sense of common human decency - bank with anyone but TCF.
TCF closed my account because they say it was compromised. That is the first answer I received when I was told to visit a branch and they could not provide me no further info. I would have to call Customer service. Which I did I talk to someone very nice customer service I have to say. I had funds coming through my account which was wire transfers and because my name was not on them it was questionable. Okay I understand that. They have to do what is necessary. Then was told would have to open another account with another $25 dollars. Which I did not have at the time. I called about two days later because I wanted to know when I would receive my funds back. Was told to go in to a branch speak to a supervisor.
I went in and the teller called the supervisor out and she says to me, "Oh you cannot open you another account." Now at this time no one is really telling me exactly what is really going on. She tells me to come back this Tuesday to revive my funds. Because why my account was on hold. I had purchases that was trying to come through and they have to make sure they come back and get paid. Okay no problem. Still not explaining to me in detail why my account was closed. Always telling me to call customer service which was getting no answers either. I have no problem that I will get my funds. Going through so much here and there with no answers. Granted my acct closed. My funds off hold... so I go to another bank to try to open me a new account and they have something on my report so I cannot open an acct. This is how I found out what the real reason they closed my acct.
It stated my account was under investigation for suspected fraud investigation. But apparently nothing was found. Which I knew there was no fraud on my account. All have been legitimate coming through my account. Why they could not tell me this. Yes I loved the bank. But they have very bad customer service. I was also told even though they all work for the same branch. All branches make they own decisions. So if that is so why refer me to call customer service... The bank I went to open a new account after running me through chexsystems was not understanding why they would have me in there. It showed I owed them no money. But I am working on that as well.
Yes they need to train some of their customer services employees better. Seems to be bad communication problems. No I cannot say all because all the tellers have good customer service.
